$14.14

Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Chapters: Aarhus Historic Shipwreck, Koonya, Advance, Alhambra, Adelphoi, Advance, Ada and Ethel, Advance, Ss City of Adelaide, Agnes, Agnes Irving, Ability, Moltke, Agnes, Agnes, Adonis, Active, Acme, Adelaide, Lindus, Wendouree, Ada, Ss Bee, Hereward, George Rennie, Queen of Nations. Excerpt: In Australia , Aarhus Historic Shipwreck is a historical site preserving one of the victims of Smith’s Rock. The Aarhus was a 640 tonne sailing barque built in 1875 in Hamburg , Germany . She was 170 ft (52 m) long. While carrying a general cargo including kerosene from New York to Brisbane , Australia, she hit Smith’s Rock, which lies about two nautical miles (4 km) north-east of Cape Moreton , and sank on 24 February 1894. The remains of the ship now lie upright in 20 metres of water, though most of the ship has been reduced to plates and ribs sticking out of the sand. It has been gazetted under Section 7 of the Historic Shipwrecks Act 1976 which provides for a special protected zone of 200m around the wreck. Any disturbance activity is prohibited; divers are required to apply to the director of the Queensland Museum for a permit to access the wreck. The Esperance Star and the MV Nautilus both currently hold permits to dive this historic wreck. This site has lots of interesting life, from macro to large batfish at cleaning stations everywhere. Another point of interest is the large mast -like object that is actually the bowsprit . This area has a cat shark inside the bowsprit and a large wobbegong shark under the scoured out section. The site can have very good visibility but a strong current makes it hard to see the entire wreck in one dive. The flashing blue and white lights and thunderous sounds continued. A new and strange world began to take form. It seemed to be painted by some unseen magical hand. On the outside of the store the appearance was normal but on the inside the store kept on growing and taking on a life of its own, until suddenly a explosion of light transformed part of the store into a magical land. Inside this new land the items of the grocery store began to come to life but at the back of the store was very quiet untouched yet by the magical light.Towards the back of the store a dim yellowish light could be seen. There were still some aisles left in the grocery story. Out of the blue the silence at the back of the store was broken by a loud crash and laughter as the magical light swept through the last parts of the Safe& Fresh Grocery. The sound of the crash and laughter was coming from where the fruit and produce section used to be. Near the fruit and produce section was several overturned trays of pies and doughnuts. “Shh! You will wake up the bread,” a voice said in a hushed tone. The laughter stopped.”Yeah whatever lets wake up the bread! Yippee! Said a banana swinging on a make shift rope and crashing into another tray of doughnuts and pies.”Banana Slick stop goofing off you are going to get us caught,” a plump red apple with short stubby legs said.Banana with a big cheesy grin strolled over to the apple.”Relax Apple Edison. Why you so uptight? You are always uptight. Let’s have some fun,” the brash Banana said as he slapped Apple on his back.Apple looked at Banana and shook his head and smiled.”I am not that upright.”"Yeah right you are as tight as a jar of pickles and look at your shirt.”"What about my shirt. I think it’s nice,” Apple said in a defensive voice.”Must you have your last name printed on it? EDISON,” Banana said as he laughed.”Whatever, what do you want to do today?” Apple asked.Banana picked up a large doughnut and

When the sun rose and I saw the fine, athletic figures of naked men, with upright bearing and easy carriage, driving their cattle up to the hills, and the equally nude tall women carrying water from the lake, I rubbed my eyes and thought to myself, ” This must surely be a Garden of Eden, where men and women, young and old, all walk about naked and unashamed, untroubled by any of our conventional ideas of decency and untrammelled by dictates of fashion.” They are a happy, cheerful race, living in a state of nature, and at the same time with a high standard of morality1—in marked contrast to neighbouring tribes of negroes ; and they are steadily increasing 1 It is almost sufficient to state that syphilis is still unknown among the Kavirondo. The name they give to their race is Ja Lwo, evidently derived from Ja Lowo, a free man, and freedom in every respect is the keynote of their life and is expressed by their unfailing cheerfulness and love of song and laughter. With the exception that the tasks of water-carrying and cooking are confined to women, the sexes stand very.

Have you ever been touched by an angel? I think that we all have been touched by angels in some way, even though we might not have recognized it at the time. I have always been fascinated with angels. When I was a little girl, my mother taught me the angel prayer: “Angel of God, my guardian dear, for whom God’s love commits me here . . .”My mother’s mother, my grandmother, was a self-taught artist with many wonderful talents. I was always entranced with her painting of a guardian angel watching over two small children. I followed in my grandmother’s footsteps, and I am also a self-taught artist. She always encouraged me to follow that dream. For as long as I can remember, drawing and painting, along with other art forms, have been an important part of my life.A number of years ago, I started collecting angels, so I guess it was appropriate that they would come to me in a dream that would change my life. It was in the late summer of 2002. I had been going through some diffi cult personal problems, and there was one incident in my life that left me in a very troubled state of mind. One evening, after I had been asleep for several hours, I experienced a powerful dream about angels who were watching over me. It was so real that it woke me out of a sound sleep, and I sat bolt upright. The effects from that dream stayed with me for several days. I decided to write down what I was feeling while it was still fresh in my mind. As I started to write, I realized that it was taking the form of a poem. It was as if a door to my soul had been opened. That poem is called “Life.”

 Barranca

Barranca

$60.08

Legendary curmudgeon and hustler extraordinaire Eddie Caminetti has taken on the Ryder Cup ( The Green), unrepentant sinners ( The Fourseome), and the entire golf equipment industry ( Scratch). But enough with the small stuff: In Barranaca, Eddie is called upon by the U.S. government to go after a South American economic terrorist threatening the only commodity capable of destabilizing the entire Western Hemisphere. Yes, Manuel Villa Lobos de Barranca is out to corner the market on coffee. When a grande (medium) cup of Starbucks hits $20, riots break out in cities and towns all over America, worker productivity plummets, and the very fabric of society begins unraveling. But there’s nothing the government can do about it because the scrupulously honest and upright de Barranca (Standford, ’96) is running his revolution without firing a shot or breaking any laws, which makes him the most dangerous subversive since Gandhi. But he’s nuts about golf, positively fanatic about betting, and that’s where Eddie Caminetti comes in. Armed with only fourteen weapons of mass destruction (the most you’re allowed to carry in your bag), he sets up a match against de Barranca on which hangs the very fate of Western civilization. In the hands of master storyteller Troon McAllister, impending doom has never been more fun.

 Beyond Surrender

Beyond Surrender

What could be more different from Western culture and convenience than the harsh life of West Africa? After surrendering to missions in Benin, Barbara Singerman and her family found that the only similarity between themselves and the Beninese was that they all walk upright on two feet and smile. In the Singerman’s new African home, communication was one step above the Dark Ages, most people had never seen ice, and hunters still used crossbows to bring home their evening meal. Why serve in a place where major diseases stalked their lives, where accomplishing basic, daily tasks caused unthinkable fatigue? The answer came in the desperate plea of villagers. “Please, come back and tell us more about Jesus.” The salvation of these staunch, voodoo-worshiping Africans propelled these American missionaries beyond surrender to bring their adopted people from darkness to light of God’s Word.

Bizarre Dinosaurs: Some Very Strange Creatures and Why We Think They Got That Way

$25.9

With state-of-the-art, digitally modeled images, fantastic photos of fossils, and up-to-date scientific interpretations, Bizarre Dinosaurs introduces dino-lovers to a group of very strange creatures indeed. The cast of characters includes Masiakasaurus, a fierce some beast whose mouth bristled with serrated, slightly hooked, forward-poking teeth; Deinocheirus with his ungainly long arms and huge triple claws; Epedendrosaurus with a tiny body and pinky fingers as long as his arms; and flat-faced Dracorex hogwartsia, the “dragon king of Hogwarts,” named after Harry Potter’s School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Paleontologist Josh Smith uses clear and informed text to tell kids what we know and what we are still guessing about this collection of odd-looking monsters, including how scientists think they used their individual bizarre characteristics. In his introduction, life-long dinosaur enthusiast John Updike gives young readers a new perspective on the sheer weirdness of dinosaurs by turning our relationship with them on its head: “How weird might a human body look to dinosaurs?” he asks. “That thin and featherless skin, that dish-flat face, that limp upright stance, those feeble, clawless five digits at the end of each limb, that ghastly utter lack of a tail—ugh. Whatever did this creature do to earn his place in the sun, a well-armored, nicely specialized dino might ask.”

A clever man, of agreeable and prepossessing manner, he always found it easy to form friendships and to secure a fresh start in life.

Body Wisdom - Interplay of Body and Ego

Body Wisdom – Interplay of Body and Ego

$24.95

Body is wiser than Ego.Ego is cleverer than Body. When Ego catches Body’s tune, a song happens. When Ego catches Body’s intuition, magic happens. An idea is born. Our bodies are one with the universe and privy to its unspoken secrets. They are the unconscious source of our intuition. When we focus with our hearts on troubling questions, our unconscious comes through for us. Open questions posed to the unconscious act as the strange attractors of chaos theory. They enable the creative speech of discovery. In this book, you will explore how your ego rises from your body through language. You will appreciate how the creative thinking enabled by body–ego interplay builds your personality overtime. The personal and social realms you create have remarkable properties. When you understand those properties, you open new vistas for viewing empathy, visions, hallucinations, dreams, and the reality of language. You open new ways to understand objective reality, the reality of religious myths, and even the reality of death. The motif of most Western thought since the time of Zoroaster and Plato is that we are minds (and souls) trapped within physical bodies. St Augustine reinforced this tradition and Descartes formalized it. The upright man, as symbolized by the stick figure (all head and almost no body) became a standard Western conception.Nietzsche saw the evil of this conception and protested it loudly. Merleau-Ponty demonstrated that our bodies both know and are known. Freud and Lacan showed how the ego rises from the body through the magic of language. Our bodies are microcosms of the universe and bearers of its unspoken secrets. Holograms, chaos theory, and fractal geometry bear witness. For more about this book and its blog, go towww.bodywisdombook.com

 Bootleg

Bootleg

$18.99

It began with the best of intentions. Worried about the effects of alcohol on American families, mothers and civic leaders started a movement to outlaw drinking in public places. Over time, their protests, petitions, and activism paid off–when a Constitional Amendment banning the sale and consumption of alcohol was ratified, it was hailed as the end of public drunkenness, alcoholism, and a host of other social ills related to booze. Instead, it began a decade of lawlessness, when children smuggled (and drank) illegal alcohol, the most upright citizens casually broke the law, and a host of notorious gangsters entered the public eye. Filled with period art and photographs, anecdotes, and portraits of unique characters from the era, this fascinating book looks at the rise and fall of the disastrous social experiment known as Prohibition. –Amazon.com.

The trail from Wayback, the nearest railway point, hugged the east bank of Jones’ Luck, shaded throughout its course by the trees which lined the river, as they did all the streams in this part of the country: cottonwoods mostly, with an occasional ash or elm. Looking to the east, the rolling ground sloped upward toward a chain of hills; to the west, beyond the river, the country lay level to the horizon. On both sides of the trail the underbrush grew thick; spring made of it a perfect paradise of blossoms. Boomerang, pet hobo of Twin River and the only one who ever dared to come back, left Little Nell’s with his characteristic hurried shuffle and approached the wooden bridge where the Wayback trail crossed the Jill, and continued south to Big Moose. Boomerang was errand boy just now, useful man about the hotel or oneof the saloons when necessity drove, at other times just plain bum. He was suspected of having been a, soldier. A sharp “‘ tention ” would startle him into a second’s upright stiffness which after a furtive look arotmd would relax into his customary shambling lack of backbone. He had one other amusing peculiarity: let a gun be discharged in his vicinity and there was trouble right away, trouble the gunner was not looking for; Boomerang would fly into such a fury of fighting rage, it was a town wonder that some indignant citizen had not sent him long ago where he never could come back. Coming to the bridge he looked casually and from habit along the trail and espied a horseman riding his
